There are a number of hard things that we have to do in this life. Nothing is more annoying and more frustrating than going to a car dealership to get a new car. We try to push this off for as long as possible. We drain our money into the car that we have hoping and praying that it will make it one more year. Often times we are disappointed and before we know it the old car has died and we have no choice, but to go shopping for a new one. In order to make this trip a success you are going to have to do a few things and keep a few things in mind.

Don’t Go Alone

It is best to tag team with someone. Have a friend or family member come with you and be your wing man or woman. They will help to give you some advice and to keep your feet firmly planted where they belong. Sometimes we can get carried away when we find a car that we truly love. This blinds us to the deal that we could be making and that could be causing us to spend more money than we had originally planned.

Budget

Which leads me to my next point. You need to set up a strict budget for yourself. Decide on how much you are able to borrow and what type of monthly payments you can afford and do not go over it. Make it clear to the sales person that you are not going to budge and they better find you a car that is suitable for the amount that you want.

Test Drive

This is key to any car dealership that you go to. It is not enough to look at a car. You must make sure that it is at the height that you want and it drives smoothly. You might find that a car looks great on the outside, but after driving it you might come to hate it.

Take Your Time

I know that patience is not a strong suit for us (not even me), but it is important to take your time and to choose wisely. You want to look into each cool car that you were interested in and get all the facts. Understand what the gas mileage is, what type of maintenance it will need in the future, and how long you plan on using it.
