Factors For Choosing The Best Mobility Scooter

Weight – this is important in buying a mobility scooter. If you weigh more than the standard power chairs which generally have a weight capacity of 250 lbs-350 lbs, the tendency is parts of the scooter will be damaged due to the stress of your excess weight.

Size – this is important based on your environment. Choose a smaller scooter with a small turning radius if you will use it indoors (especially if the corners are tight and the hallways are narrow).

Type – this is important based on your scooter’s purpose, on how you will use your scoter. You may want to use the 4 wheel scooter (suggested on tougher terrains such as rural areas and grassy areas), or the 3 wheel scooter (ideal in tight spaces such as, the mall and in your house).

Seating – the importance of this depends on how you use your scooter. If you drive in your scooter and sit in it most of the time then getting a scooter that has many layers of foam padding will be a better choice.

Arm types – to make your arm feel comfortable is important. You can have the scooter with adjustable arms to satisfy your needs.

Lights – this is an important factor especially if you drive your scooter at night or you have vision problems. This is to avoid you and other people on your way from getting hurt.

Left or right handed – this is important because if you are a right handed and you get yourself a left handed scooter, surely you will have a hard time adjusting. Better get the one which will fit your need best.

Buying Based On Your Lifestyle

It is such of an importance to know where and how you will use your scooter. If you intend to use your scooter indoors better get a compact type mobility scooter with easy maneuverability and fixed turning radius. Most scooter stores will list the different types of scooters and which will be best for you. If you still have doubts, give them a call and consult with a sales person.

If you intend to use your scooter outdoors better get a sturdier and rugged mobility scooter that is capable of passing through rougher roads or grounds. Take note that mobility scooters that will travel on main roads should be equipped with both taillights and headlights and with should be with a speed of 8mp minimum. Knowing these things will get you the best scooter you need!
